Spinning Discs Sheffield is an independent record shop established to give music lovers in Sheffield a place to meet, relax, drink coffee and browse new, reissue and select second hand vinyl in a friendly community environment. We are not a global. We value our Customers, their views and comments.

We cater across the very wide board of musical tastes from Indie to Classical and Hip Hop to Metal.

If we don’t happen to cater for a Customer’s taste then we always welcome a discussion to see what we can do.

We want you to enjoy the experience of spending time browsing through physical records and perhaps chancing upon something you fancy or even just liking the cover art and thinking “why not”.  We believe that the age of the physical format is here to stay.  So let’s get physical.

If you love music and love vinyl then Spinning Discs Sheffield is definitely worth a visit.

New Release

New in – 17th February 2017

With Valentine’s Day out the way it’s time to start buying records for ourselves again, no more worrying about what someone else will like…pure wax indulgence!

For the first time in 25 years…the Twin Peaks ‘Fire Walk With Me’ soundtrack is back on vinyl, freshly remastered for a re-celebration of one of the finest OST’s to grace our screens. It still sounds like it came out yesterday!

Alongside this we’ve got folk/pop sensation Amy Macdonald’s 4th LP “Under Stars”, 2x Pete Townshend solo LP represses, Ryan Adam’s latest record “Prisoner”, and a special edition repress of Iggy & the Stooges “Raw Power” which includes both the original David Bowie masters and the 1997 remastering by Iggy himself.

Special mention goes to Cobalt Chapel’s debut LP which features Sheffield based Jarrod Gosling and folk priestess Cecilia Fage, an intriguing psych-folk journey inspired by Gosling’s daily runs round the Damflask reservoir.

Also in this week: Rae Sremmurd, Piano Wire, Deep Throat Choir, Molly Burch, Strand of Oaks, Jens Lekman, Bing & Ruth, Tim Darcy, Nikki Lane, The Damned and The White Buffalo.

Come down for a chat and a coffee while you dig!

New in – 10th February 2017

Wondering what to get for that special someone in your life this week (or any other for that matter)?

Well we’ve got loads of things that (may well) make you (or that special someone) go hmmm!

Bowie represses with ‘Live Nassau Coliseum’, ‘David Live’, ‘Station to Station’, ‘Young Americans’, ‘Diamond Dogs’ and the 40th Anniversary Picture Disc of ‘Sound and Vision’.  Rag’n’Bone Man’s debut ‘Human’ (with some fantastic artwork by Ben Ashton), some Prince, Fatboy Slim, The Replacements, Blondie (with their new single), Jesca Hoop’s new album, BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah and more!

Special mention goes to Warp’s long awaited repress of The Other People Place, Lifestyles Of The Laptop Café, 1st pressings of which have gone for up to £185 on Discogs!

Add to all that some friendly chat, perhaps a coffee and the warm feel of the interior of Spinning Discs Sheffield (because the front door now shuts properly!) and you’ve got yourself a great week ahead.

New in – 3rd February 2017

As 2017 hits fourth gear the new albums are coming in thick and fast, this week we’ve got a right fresh bag for you all!

First up is Moon Duo’s Occult Architecture Volume 1, their fourth album to date and first of two volumes to come out this year. Out on red marbled vinyl too! Next up are debut albums from Danish brothers Communions and Sampha (you may have heard of him from his SBTRKT collaborations), both stunning efforts and exciting prospects for the future. Elbow’s 7th studio album comes in the form of Little Fictions, an intriguing change in atmosphere but still with Guy Garvey’s touch of the magnificent.

And there’s plenty more new in after these 4, a compilation of unreleased Roy Ayers Ubiquity jazz-funk heat, 4 Françoise Hardy albums and the new Black Star Riders LP on a picture Disc.

We’re also in the process of beefing up our select second hand section in the Record Emporium, lots of new funk, soul and disco stuff in. Get down and dig yourself silly!

New in – 20th January 2017

Over the past couple of weeks we’ve filled the racks with loads of great new and reissue vinyl.  We’ve added even more select second hand vinyl to the Record Emporium at the back of the shop.

Tom Baxendale at Spinning Discs Sheffield

For our second Christmas ‘Front Room’ gig this Saturday 10th December we have the delights of Tom Baxendale to entertain.  The gig starts around 5pm and it’s going to be intimate.

Come and have yourself a fantastic start to the Christmas season at ours (and it’s all for free!)

New in – 9th December – Spinning Discs Sheffield

It’s been a while…

What with the preparations for the forthcoming season and our first ‘Front Room‘ gig (and if you weren’t there then you missed a real treat from Big Top Heartbreak) we’ve been busy.  Sorry!

Anyway – Solange.  She’s like Beyonce, Adele, Cher, Dusty and loads of other single name artists that are fantastic.  Some other artists could have gone down the very same route but the affect just wouldn’t have been the same – Russ, Rod, Bob or Billy (no – not that one)!  Enough ramblings.  Her album is in on vinyl.  Plus we’ve got another one with Kema’s soundtrack to ‘Alle Sorgenti Delle Civilta’.

Loads of restocks from Fews, Aphex Twin, The White Stripes, The Maytalls, Soul Jazz Records, Swet Shop Boys, Radiohead, Wild Beasts, National, Stereolab, Low, The Wytches, Tame Impala and more.

Pop in to have a gander.  Pop in for our next ‘Front Room’ gig on Saturday at 5pm with Tom Baxendale.

Big Top Heartbreak at Spinning Discs Sheffield

This Christmas we’re hosting our first ever ‘Front Room’ Gigs and we’ve got some amazing artists coming in to the shop to play intimate sets to 25 customers.

On 3rd December we’re kicking off with Big Top Heartbreak – Influenced by the skullduggery and honky tonk blues of Tom Waits and Nick Cave, the simple sentiment of Daniel Johnson, the slutty vibe of The Velvet Underground and the cheekiness of Ian Dury, Big Top Heartbreak is Scott Lavene.

This is an album that could easily become a cult classic” JIM BARR – PORTISHEAD and GET THE BLESSING.

Where have this band been all my life?” RICHARD PITT – BBC INTRODUCING

All of the gigs start at 5.15pm sharp.  If you want to come along all you need to do is pop in to the shop and ask for a ticket (they’re free!) beforehand to the gig or gigs of your choice.

Tickets are limited so make sure that you get one (or two) while you can.

New in – 25th November – Spinning Discs

Have you heard that this Friday it’s ‘Black Friday’?  What does it all mean?

To us it’s all about some great tunes coming out on the marvellous black (or sometimes coloured) stuff!  So we’ve got loads of classics restocking with The Doors from ‘Strange Days’ and ‘L.A. Woman’ through to ‘Other Voices’ and ‘Full Circle’.  Led Zeppelin are back in again with ‘Houses…’ along with ‘I’, ‘II’, ‘III’ and ‘IV’.  Run DMC are in the house (who’s house? not Run’s house? Our house!) and are about to celebrate ‘Christmas in Hollis’.  Bruce (Springsteen) is supplementing his new tome with some truly amazing tunes on ‘Chapter and Verse’ (on tortoiseshell vinyl).  Jimi Hendrix, Alice in Chains, Radiohead’s special edition of ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’, Dolly Parton’s ‘Live at Glastonbury’, Zayn, Suicide Squad – OST – They’re all in at ours.

Pop on down for a browse and a chat why don’t you!
